Auto Security / Car Alarms – Secure Your Vehicle

Submitted by a website visitor:

Securing your car both at home and in public is a very important step to take. You work hard to pay for your car and do not want it vandalized or stolen.

People often use car alarms to protect one of their most expensive investments. It is truly disheartening to emerge from your home or a shopping center to find your car missing or harmed.

Car alarms can help protect you and your family from crimes committed against your vehicle. They can also save money when considering the rise in insurance costs that occurs when claims are made.

When you are looking for a car alarm, there are some features that are important.

First of all, you want to make sure the car will sound its alarm when the door is open, either by force or by a key. You will also want sensors that can detect more subtle movement such as pressure and general shock around the car.

Secondly, you will want to ensure that your car alarm has a siren. A siren can frighten someone who may want to vandalize or steal your vehicle. If the would-be criminal is scared away, it is likely that no further damage will be done to your car.

When looking for a car alarm, it is often helpful to find an alarm that will allow you to set the siren to different tones. Having a distinct car alarm is a signal letting you know that your car in particular is in harm’s way rather than your neighbor’s car or a vehicle belonging to someone in the same shopping complex.

It is important that your car alarm come equipped with a radio receiver / transmitter. This will allow you to manipulate your car alarm from a distance rather than only when standing at your vehicle.

Generally, this radio transmitter / receiver comes in the form of a key fob equipped with wireless control. While most vehicles are now equipped with a similar fob, you will want more options from your car alarm system.

A fourth item you should research when deciding on a car alarm is an auxiliary battery. This type of battery allows your car alarm’s siren to sound even when the car’s battery is disconnected from the car.

An auxiliary battery is critical when attempting to protect your car from theft. Without this feature in a car alarm system, your vehicle is very vulnerable.

A fifth and final item you should look for in a car alarm is a computer control unit. This unit is the control center of your car alarm. It coordinates what the computer senses and what the reaction needs to be.

For instance, if someone was trying to open your car door, the alarm system needs to be able to detect that motion and sound an alarm. Without a powerful computer control unit, your car alarm may not make those coordinations quickly or accurately.

Car alarm systems are intended to give the consumer an extra measure of security when parking a vehicle at home, work or other places they may find themselves. With adequate options, car alarm systems can protect our vehicles from expensive damage and theft.
